INTRODUCTION OF POET:
Thomas Gray is a great name in English literature. He belongs to the age of trainsition. He is prominent among the poets of his age, because of style and poetic diction. His elegy has been regarded as his master piece.

THEME:
The poet is the deep manifastation of the poet's feelings. It contains deep reflection of the poet on the universal theme of death. He draws our attention to the fct that the ultimate destination of all the human beings is grave and there is nothing in the world which can save us from whether the man is rich or poor.

STYLE:
Thomas Gray makes wanderful use of potential contrast between plain and ronate style. Each stanza of the poem consists of four lines. First line is rhyming with the third and second line and second line is rhyming with the fourth. The poem has reigious, philsophical and didactic touch.

LANGUAGE:
Thomas Gray has composed this elegy in a memorable language, which is the beauty of the poem. The choice of words is best have clarity, elevation and perfection.

ELEMENT OF VERSE:
Thomas Gray has used metaphors very beautiful. But the use of transfer epithet is really marvelous.

CONCLUSION:
It is a mourful poem. As poem demands a sad tone. Thomas Gray has been very successful in creating a sad calm atmostphere. Sadness and calmness have became the distinguishing qualities of the poem.
